Christel House Works...
Transforming Lives

home1

Christel House South Africa (CHSA) endeavours to break the cycle of poverty by providing a holistic learning experience for each child. We recognise that poor children come to the classroom not just without the ability to read and write, but with social problems as well, often hungry and living in dysfunctional families.

Our approach is different. Through our unique education model, we are able to nurture and develop learners into responsible and productive adults – free of the clutches of poverty.

100% of your donations go directly towards our children’s education and development.

Breaking the cycle of poverty is an epic challenge

The places Christel House South Africa (CHSA) students call home are bleak. And yet...our children thrive.

Life in a squatter camp is devoid of many things — indoor plumbing, electricity, heating, air conditioning, sewers and paved roads. But for a child, the absence of green grass and a safe place to play is sorely missed. All children deserve a place to play in a safe and nurturing environment.

Learning good sportsmanship, working hard to succeed, performing as part of a team and pushing to achieve goals are all important life lessons learned through sports. On the available land surrounding our school, Christel House wants to make improvements so that our students, as well as children from the surrounding communities, can ride bikes, and play soccer, rugby, basketball and cricket.

As an entrepreneur and cycling enthusiast, Zipp Founder, Andy Ording, knows about challenges. But Andy's obstacles pale in comparison to the daily life challenges Christel House students like Ziah Fortune must overcome.

To honor and support CHSA students, Andy and fellow Christel House supporter Todd Winget, will ride the grueling Cape Epic Untamed African Mountain Bike Race in March 2013. Cape Epic is an intense, eight day, 434 mile mountain bike race through the Cape of South Africa.

To kick off our own EPIC CHALLENGE campaign to build the sports fields, Andy and his wife, Hermiene, will match every dollar raised by March 31, 2013 — up to $25,000.

Additional funds raised will support health and wellness needs for all Christel House students. Every dollar of your contribution will benefit the children – none will be used for administrative expenses.

Can we count on you to give the students of Christel House a safe place to learn, play and grow?

Volunteer Programmes

Christel House South Africa also welcomes volunteers from the global community every year. In the past we have partnered with organisations like the University of North Carolina, Kick Start and the University of Connecticut and have been astounded by the giving hearts of the individuals who come to volunteer at our school.

Volunteers come as teaching assistants, library assistants, social workers and guidance counsellors or as experts in psychology, occupational therapy and remedial teaching.

Anyone wishing to be a volunteer should contact Sharon Williams:
