About Us

OUR BEGINNINGS
In 1996, businesswoman and philanthropist Christel DeHaan sold her company, Resort Condominiums International, and decided that the next phase of her life would be devoted to helping impoverished children. Her motto, "The more we have, the more we need to share," has been translated into a holistic human development model that brings about lasting change and transformation.

OUR GROWTH
Christel House opened five learning centers in less than four years – in Mexico, India, South Africa, Venezuela and the United States. Since that time, our programs have expanded to serve nearly 2,600 students, their families and communities. Christel House employs more than 250 dedicated professionals who help our children optimize their potential and achieve productive, self-sufficient lives.

OUR STRUCTURE
Christel House International is a registered 501(c)(3) public charity. Christel House learning centers are registered not-for-profit entities in their local countries. The organization operates with rigorous business practices, metrics and high measures of accountability and transparency. External, independent, financial audits and education audits are performed annually. Educational audits evaluate grade-level curriculum, student assessments, teaching methodology, professional development and regulatory compliance. Information obtained from these assessments is used to develop strategies to improve instructional methodologies, refine assessment practices and enrich teacher training.
