Enrollment

Our Children

Confident. Hard working. Enthusiastic. Resilient. They concentrate in class and participate with confidence. These are the children of Christel House South Africa. They are the hope for the future of our country. They love being at Christel House, away from the hardships of their everyday lives, where they can be children again, absorbed in their play and in a constant state of wonder at the world that is being revealed to them. Where are they from?

Where are they from?

Christel House South Africa enrolls children from townships within 10 Kms from the learning centre. These communities are Langa, Joe Slovo, Manenberg, Hanover Park, Bokmakierie, Kew Town, Vygekraal, Pooke-se-Bos and Delft. To be eligible for enrollment, a child’s family must meet a certain poverty criteria. While many factors are considered , the total combined family income cannot exceed R 2500 per month when supporting 8 or more dependents. Nearly 1500 applications for admission are received every year. From these, sixty children will be enrolled at the Grade 1 level. All these children undergo a screening test, both psychological and developmental, before admission.

A Christel House Social Worker visits the households of each applicant as part of the recruitment process.
