No matter what the circumstances, it is our mission to help children from disadvantaged communities, who lack education, opportunity, dignity, good health and positive role models to become productive members of the South African society. CHSA enrols children from areas within 10kms from the learning centre. These communities are Langa, Manenberg, Hanover Park, Bokmakierie, Kew Town, Vygekraal and Pooke-se-Bos. A full scholarship from Grade R to Grade 12 is offered to eligible learners. To be eligible a child’s family must meet a certain poverty criteria.
While many factors are considered, the total combined family income cannot exceed R2 500 per month when supporting eight or more dependents. From many applications each year, approximately 60 children are enroled at the Grade R level. A Christel House social worker visits the households of each applicant as part of the assessment process.
