A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Christel House South Africa (CHSA) was inaugurated in 2001 amid great excitement and expectation from the sub-economic and informal settlement communities of the greater Athlone area in the Western Cape. The many applications to the school are an indication that Christel House South Africa (CHSA) really meets the needs of the community it serves and the core business of this charitable NPO is valid and needed within the South African Context.

The constraints of humble resources and physical constraints does not inhibit the enthusiasm of children, parents and staff to drive this wonderful mission of breaking the many cycles of poverty. We are proud in the fact that we are only in our seventh year of existence, but are already experiencing many indicators of success, where we impact on the character of the children and eventually reach not only the family but also the relations and other children and families within the communities we serve. CHSA and its work is very well known within the community and even our parent workshops which has a skills development focus, are well attended by even community members.

Christel House South Africa (CHSA) has over the past year achieved many highlights which makes it a preferred choice for many teachers and children. Among the many highlights the following are definitely worth mentioning:

  • CHSA achieved the highest current possible accreditation (with a perfect score) from the council for quality assurance in general and further education and training body, UMALUSI, which is a government mandated body in terms of the South African GENFETQA Act.
  • CHSA also achieved 77% on a 2007 Franklyn Covey xQ report on the organisation, which is almost in line with the top 10% companies globally. In terms of staff goal directedness. In some of the categories CHSA even surpassed the top 10% companies, i.e. in clarity of goals, translation into action and alignment to execute the organizational goals.

Our 2008 theme is "focus, teamwork and execution". Through this focus we will continue to meet the need of our community, which is to enable and empower our children to rid themselves and others, from the cycles of poverty which strangles the South African poor and prohibits them from souring beyond its circumstances.
